What are the benefits of a package like this?
For consumers, this packaging helps:

  • Ensure you take the right medicine at the right time
  • Protect against spills or contamination
  • Track dosages and make timely refills

At the pharmacy:

  • A pre-filled format may reduce refill wait times and allow more time for patient consultations

Design features:

  • More space for important drug information and a flat label for easier reading
  • Fits easily in a medicine cabinet and neatly stacks onto similarly packaged medications
  • Discreet and portable

How does the package help me take my medicine at the right time?
Medication packages with daily calendars like this one have been scientifically proven to help patients track their doses and refill their prescriptions on time. This can lead to better health and help lower healthcare costs.

Why does the pack have a button safety feature?
It's designed to be easy for adults to open but hard for children to get into.

Why do I have to use the push/pull technique to open it?
The push/pull technology is a child-resistance feature. We incorporated it to meet the highest child safety standards for medication packaging.

The medication card makes it difficult to use my pill organizer.
The package is like a pill organizer, in that it makes use of a daily calendar. So, it's not necessary to transfer your medication from its original container to an organizer. This can save you time and eliminate worry.

If you'd still like to use your pill organizer, you can easily integrate this package into your routine. The calendar on the medication card can help you be confident that you've accurately distributed your pills into the organizer.

Shellpak Renew Paperboard Packaging FAQ

Since the packaging has changed, does that mean that the medication itself has changed also?
No. The medication is the same; we've simply changed the packaging to bring you additional benefits.

Why is the carton is made of paper instead of plastic?
Because the environment is very important to us, the recyclable paper-based carton is made from renewable materials. Plus, its tear-resistant material ensures the package is child resistant.

Will the paper carton protect my medications the same way as the plastic carton, or a vial or bottle?
Yes! The outer package is sturdy and tear-resistant. And the inside medication card protects fragile pills individually – even better than a plastic vial or bottle. This prevents them from spilling, getting lost, or being crushed or contaminated from germs or moisture.

How do I open Shellpak Renew?
Use your left thumb to gently push the button, and then pull out the silver medication card with your right thumb and forefinger.

All of our packaging is designed to be easy for adults to open but hard for children to get into.

Tips for easy opening:

  • Ensure the blister card is fully pushed into the package.
  • Gently push the button before you pull on the medication card. If you pull on the card first, it will become trapped inside the carton. Pressing too hard will make the package more difficult to open.
  • Don't "pinch" the button between your two fingers that are on the front and back of the carton. This will trap the medication card inside the carton.

How do I dispose of this package?
To dispose of the package, separate the outer carton and the inner medication card.

  • The outer carton is curbside recyclable.
  • The inner medication card should be disposed of in the garbage.
